Being 100% Positive Actually Weakens You

Do you know how many thoughts we have every day? No, nor do I however some scientists put it around 80 thousand most of which are repeated daily and approximately 80% of those thoughts are Negative! Yes, I said Negative! So, what chance have we got of being 100% Positive? Little to no chance and I'm not being negative by saying that, quite the opposite because we need to be negative at times, and here's why.

We have so many negative thoughts because it's the default setting within our subconscious minds. It comes from the days when we had to live our lives on full alert all the time to protect ourselves and those around us from wild beasts and marauding tribes. Negativity is well and truly integrated into our Fight or Flight system and we still need it.

Now I'm sure, like me, you've heard practically every Positive Thinking Expert or Guru say we should strive to be only Positive, to avoid newspapers, the TV news, Soaps, scary or violent movies, getting angry and more. Now admittedly those forms of entertainment or Media Input are not that beneficial however, just like junk food, they only do real harm if you are constantly feeding yourself with them.

For example, if you are on a weight reduction programme and yet are having waffles and syrup for breakfast - or a Full English if you're in UK - then Burger and Fries for lunch and Pizza for your evening meal, then it's not going to work, is it? No, of course not! However, the odd occasional pizza, burger and Fries etc is ok - especially as a treat!

Another example. Gold. Have you ever noticed that gold items are mostly 9 or 18 carat and very rarely - if ever - pure gold unless they're antique? Why do you think that is? The answer is quite simple; pure gold is too soft to work with efficiently, therefore nickel is added, or some other low-grade metal, to make it easier and more robust to work with and enable the finished product to be worn for much longer.

So, when it comes to negativity the same kind of rule applies in a sense - we need to have some negativity in our lives to enable us to function efficiently otherwise we would be lopsided, imbalanced. Being 100% Positive would be Pollyanna on steroids, and we wouldn't want that, would we?

As a last thought, Michael Losier says in his book, Law of Attraction, that it's OK to be negative - briefly. So, it's OK to have a quick rant or smash a plate - or laptop in my case! -  or to be angry with a situation etc, so long as it's only for a brief time and then you get back on track.

How long is briefly? Well, that depends on you and the situation. Some are negative for a few minutes, for others it could be a few years until they find closure or finish grieving. Point is, just don't stay negative for the sake of it because that's even more damaging than being 100% Positive!

Now you know why you can't be 100% Positive; however, must we remain 80% Negative and only 20% Positive? No, we don't need that amount of negativity in our lives today, it no longer serves the same purpose. Using meditation practices, mindfulness exercises and other positive growth tools, you can reverse the 80/20 so that it becomes 80% Positive and 20% Negative, which creates a more balanced way of living as well as a more joyful life.

Meditation, Mindfulness and Affirmations are what I personally use to keep my negative thinking and anger at a more manageable level and, as I haven’t wrecked any keyboards or laptops for a long while, they must be working!
